Choosing Bathroom Vanaties

Vanity is a type of bathroom furniture that usually consists of a sink, countertop, and mirror. Modern vanities can include lights, architectural styling details, built-in shelves, and even storage space. Vanity is a very important part of a bathroom’s installation. Before indoor plumbing became common, vanity tables were typically housed in bed chambers so that people could easily wash their hands and faces at night.

Originally, vanity tables were installed in bedrooms. While many vanities today are placed in separate bathrooms, some interior designers are placing free-standing bathtubs in bedrooms. Using a freestanding bathtub in a bedroom can be a great way to harken back to a time before bathrooms had plumbing. While it’s a little more opulent, the look will still be functional and timeless.

Modern plumbing has maintained the basic shape of the vanity table, but has made it much higher. The standard height for bathroom vanities is around 32 inches, while comfort height is about 36 inches. While this isn’t ideal for every bathroom, it is a good idea to keep this in mind when choosing the size of the new piece. Using a vanity that’s higher than the standard height will allow you to stand without stooping.

While most bathroom vanaties are narrower than their kitchen counterparts, they can still be large enough to accommodate all of your essential items. In addition to the width of the vanity, you should also consider its depth. A typical bathroom cabinet is 21 inches tall, while a standard kitchen cabinet is 36 inches tall. Depending on the height of your vanity, you may want to get a vanity that’s higher than your standard kitchen cabinets.
